Topic :- Character of Hermione Granger
Introduction :-
Hermione Granger is one of Harry Potter's best
friends, along with Ron Weasley. She is depicted as extremely
intelligent—the classic over-achiever, with top marks in all her classes. She
was born on September 19, 1979.Hermione is a Muggle-born witch. She has
bushy brown hair and brown eyes, and had buck teeth until her fourth year. However
much Ron and Harry tease her, they both depend on her intelligence for their
continuing success in academics. She is the most sensible of the Trio and is
usually the one to solve the mysteries they are faced with.
Hermione demonstrated
an impressive amount of knowledge of Hogwarts and magic for a Muggle-born.She
was sorted into Gryffindor after much hesitation; the Sorting Hat wondered if
she belonged to Ravenclaw, but eventually decided in the favor of Gryffindor.
At the beginning of her first year, most people, including Harry and Ron,
thought she was a bossy bookworm who always stuck to the rules. After the three
of them fought a Mountain Troll, however, she softened a bit and became best
friends with Ron and Harry.
Hermione
loves to visit the Library and depends a lot in it; she believes everything can
be learned through books. The only time she couldn't find anything in them was
when she was searching for information on Horcruxes, but only because Horcruxes
are deeply imbedded in the Dark Arts.Hermione's favorite book is probably Hogwarts, A History, from
which she learned, for example, that it is impossible to Apparate or
Disapparate on Hogwarts grounds. Oftentimes she scolds Ron and Harry for their
relative ignorance of Hogwarts-related matters.
As
a Feminist Hermione :-
We are saw that , J.K. Rolling has been
presented to Hermione as a very brave and
smart girl in each every series. but Hermione
is seen to suffer a lot of Discrimination.
Because the main hero is Harry potter .
So Most of Importance is flying
around Harry.Even we are showing to Hermione is a
most intelligent girl , after than she is a
girlfriend of Ron.Even though Hermione is capable of all it
still has to suffer a lot .
Feminist perspective in Hermione’s
character :-
- Dependent Character
-
Ignorance and struggle
-
Perfect example of feminist features
-
Intelligence
-
Fight against patriarchy
-
Presence of mind
-
Thinker of plans
-
Ignorance and struggle:-
:-
Hermione is the perfect example when
examining the feminist principles in the novels.Throughout
the series she has many strengths and weaknesses, but she is mostly
criticized about her weakness as a character.
For example,
Professor Snape completely ignored her in favor of the boys
in the class.
"Tell me, Miss Granger, are you incapable
of restraining yourself, or do you take pride in being an insufferable know- it
all ?”
Intelligence :-
Hermione is that Character
that is smart and she is able to figure out most of the secrets that no
one else can. Hermione knowledge and brains save her and her friends
throughout the series multiple times, showing her strength every time she
uses her intellect to defeat a problem.
She
isn't easily fooled by the display of power within the Ministry of
Magic and is able to value the worth of a person on how they behave with
those considered inferior to the wizarding race.
She's
not only able to recollect every fact she's ever learned, she's also
able to apply them in situations where the other two fall short of
expectations. And her reasoning is excellent. she is able
to reason with an extremely furious Harry that it's better to verify
that Sirius isn't home before rushing off to what might be an ambush.
Hermione is logical. Being
logical, having a sound argument and the ability to challenge notions
does not make her less intelligent. Is she a skeptic? Doesn't she
question and question until she gets a reasonable answer that is solid
without any logical fallacies? Yes. She does. I would say being a
skeptic makes her much more intelligent, because here is a person that
will research and prove her point and if she finds out that her
standpoint is false, she will concede. Dumbledore was intelligent and
wise and that wisdom came with age. This is why he was able to have
hunches and accept facts which would have seemed far-fetched otherwise.
He had been witness to many a terrible thing during his life.
For example,
Harry Potter , who had found
himself a
book full of potion cheat
codes . The last thing her needed was
another helping hand. Hermione warned him about using the book.
- Fight against patriarchy :-
Harry Potter might be named for its male protagonist, but the Harry Potter series brought us some of the fiercest female characters of all time: Minerva McGonagall, Molly Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley, Fleur Delacour, and everyone's favorite insufferable know-it-all, Hermione Granger.
These witches aren't just your stereotypical strong female characters, either. They're each different, with their own strengths and flaws Luna is a bit out-to-lunch, but still kind and courageous. Ginny can get hotheaded, but she makes up for it with loyalty and nerve. And Hermione is the smartest witch of her year and as brave as any Gryffindor, but she can also be ruthless and intensely stubborn. They're all every bit the equal of their wizard classmates, and they're all well-rounded characters to boot. J.K. Rowling's girls all feel real, or as real as you can get at a school for witchcraft and wizardry.
Even the boys can be refreshingly feminist, when they're not desperately trying to get a date to the Yule Ball. Harry and Ron are meat-headed teenagers sometimes, but they also seem perfectly happy to admit that Hermione's the most talented when it comes to magic (which may just be a ploy to get her to help with their homework, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
The women of Harry Potter were always there to remind us that girls can cast Bat-Bogey Hexes just as well if not better) than boys can. So here are some choice quotes for when you're fed up with the non-magical patriarchy:

Here we also have to think about the other part that though
she is emerging as the strong character among our eyes as the reader but she is
not ‘The Hero’ of the novel. We always will put her after Harry Potter. The
other thing is that Dumbledore he gave a book to Hermione and the tools to
Harry and Ron which again shows the typical portrayal of a girl. Well, second
interpretation we can also do that only she is enough intelligent to read the
book. And his faith in Hermione is also true. The second thing is that in the
last part of the movies it is showed that she is carrying a purse a magical
purse in which everything she needs come out. Which again carry on the idea
that in a girl’s purse we will find everything - the typical idea.
It is true that she is brilliant among all but she yet not got enough
space like the other female characters and especially like Lily potter. She was
also strong and stronger than Harry’s father and it her love which was creating
armour around Harry and was protecting Harry till the end.
Conclusion:-
So we know
that Hermione ‘s character gets a lot of
support from one , and from another point
of view there is a lot of injustice
done to her character.
Hermione is emerging as strong character but she is not the lead
character of the story. The second thing is that she is always targeted for her
weakness she is never appreciated for her strength, Even, Ron also admits that
without Hermione they were not able to survive for a day but even then he is
not appreciating her face to face. And the other limitation is that like other
characters here Hermione is also objectified but in more controlled way. At
some extend she becomes the reason of the rivalry between both the friends. But
the good thing is that she is not weak point of the story rather she is the
strong bond of the story. She is very logical in her way of thinking. But still
all the time she is being abused by remembering her that she is Muggle-blood.
It is true that she is smart among three of them but she is always pointed
about her weakness rather than her ability and positivity.
