Q-1 Why are two scenes of Lulu omitted from the movie?
Stanley is the protogonist and main character of the play in this movie stanley shown as criminal so all focuss on stanley in this play . So we can say that Lulu is omitted from the movie.
Q -2 Is movie successful in giving us the effect of menace? Where you able to feel it while reading the text?
Comedy
of menace term used to describe this play. The Birthday Party is a
tragedy with a number of comic elements. It is a comedy, which also
produced an overwhelming tragic effect. In conversation of Goldberg ,
McCann with Stanley we find Menace in torrent of language , pause and
use of silence. In the film door knocking , breathing , tearing the
paper all scene creates atmosphere of menace.
In the play we see violence throughout and feeling of insecurity. At party time Goldberg and McCann ' s behaviour with Stanley was much dengerous and worst. During blind man's buff game they torcher him much . Sounds of drum and it's effect this all lurking danger while viewing the movie.
Newspaper as a means of communication used by dramatist in play ironically. The characters hide them behind the paper. When Petey was reading the newspaper meg trying to make conversation with him unsuccessfully. McCann tearing shows his mentality. When Petey hides it it means he wants to hide reality from Meg about them and Stanley.
Q-5 Camera is positioned over the head of McCain when he is playing Blind Man's Buff and is positioned at the top with a view of room like a cage (trap) when Stanley is playing it. What interpretations can you give to these positioning of camera?
Camera is play vital role in this play. In these position of camera ... stanley and mcCain wants to confess the truth from Stanley so both are planing to trap Stanley with game of Blind Man's Buff.
Q-6 "Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of one another and pretense crumbles." (Pinter, Art, Truth & Politics: Excerpts from the 2005 Nobel Lecture). Does this happen in the movie?
Yes we can see in this movie.Petey and Meg helps him in all his works. But when Stanley was in danger that time no one helps him...
Q-7 If you were director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of movie?
Movie helps us in better understanding of the play ,the pauses and silence, the effect of menacing And lurking danger cannot be felt well while reading. The film creates that awful experience and makes us feel uneasy throughout the film.
Q- 8 How does viewing movie help in better understanding of the play ‘The Birthday Party’ with its typical characteristics (like picturesque, pause, silence, menace, lurking danger)?
it is help and better understanding of our play .And Pinter use of picturesque, pause, silent, and menace lurking fear as it is in the play reading. While reading the play, we cannot feel pause, silence, lurking danger, menace, picturesque techniques.
