Movie review of "Reluctant Fundamentalism"

This movie is based on Mohsin  Hamid 's  novel which has same title. This movie has framed narration.The movie began with Lahor's professor Named Changez khan. He was the main protagonist on novel and hero of movie.He was pakistani and have dream to settle in America.


The Reluctant Fundamentalist

‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ movie by Meera Nair. Changez leading main role in this movie. This movie reflects relationship between Pakistan and America. As we know that America is a powerful nation comparing Pakistan. As we know in postcolonial theory one nation tries to control another nation. So as we know that America control Pakistan. And in this movie main character ‘Changez’ suffer a lot because he is from Pakistan. In America he is powerful and intelligent person rather than other person in his office, yet he faces many difficulties in America. For example Changez suffer because of his outlook and his body checks up at airport, and it is insulting for any person to be naked and giving the proof that he is not terrorist. So we can see power of west on east in this movie.

America And Pakistan Relationship 

                       In the movie also Changez faced problem because he belong to Muslim country. All countries and their movies show the villains almost are Muslim. They succeeded to built this kind of stereotype in the mind of other religion's people. America only see their 3000 Americans died in this attack but they do not see that they killed billions of Muslims in Gulf war and in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria wars. If world want to make peace in the earth then all have to protest against America to stop terrorism because "America is the mother of terrorism.

Changez khan's Reaction 

During the interview with Bobby. Bobby asked him what he was felt when twice tower falling down in America. At that time he replied him very interesting way he told him that : 

         " I am not glad as people died in America as you not glad 1,00, 000 people died in Baghdad. "

So he wanted to say that he was  obviously happy at that time. As same they were happy during Baghdad incident when many Muslim were died. It's portyed real expression of him.

Postcolonial Point of view

         

                    If we see this movie with the perspectives of the postcolonial studies so we have to apply Edward said's 'Orientalism' and also apply the race theory. We can say that why western countries and especially America looking towards Muslim countries as countries of terrorism? It is all about the illusion of america that every Muslim are terrorist. America Know that if we want be in power position so that we have to destroyed all Muslim countries in the name of terrorism. One may have question like Muslim countries are more in the number then other religion, then why they don't take action on America. But, actually, because of obsequiousness of Pakistan and Saudi Arab others countries unable to convince that all Muslims are not like that.
