MOVIE REVIEW : HARRY POTTER

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is a red-blooded adventure movie, dripping with atmosphere, filled with the gruesome and the sublime, and surprisingly faithful to the novel. A lot of things could have gone wrong, and none of them have: Chris Columbus' movie is an enchanting classic that does full justice to a story that was a daunting challenge. The novel by J.K. Rowling was muscular and vivid, and the danger was that the movie would make things too cute and cuddly. It doesn't. Like an "Indiana Jones" for younger viewers, it tells a rip-roaring tale of supernatural adventure, where colorful and eccentric characters alternate with scary stuff like a three-headed dog, a pit of tendrils known as the Devil's Snare and a two-faced immortal who drinks unicorn blood. Scary, yes, but not too scary--just scary enough.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" leaves all of the explanations of wizardry behind and plunges quickly into an adventure that's darker and scarier than anything in the first Harry Potter movie. It's also richer: The second in a planned series of seven Potter films is brimming with invention and new ideas, and its Hogwarts School seems to expand and deepen before our very eyes into a world large enough to conceal unguessable secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The film centers on the escape of the sinister Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) from Azkaban Prison; Sirius was convicted in Voldemort's plot to murder Harry's parents, and now it's suspected he must finish the job by killing Harry. As Harry returns for his third year at Hogwarts, grim wraiths named Dementors are stationed at every entrance to the school to ward off Sirius, but the Dementors are hardly reassuring, with their trick of sucking away the soul essence of their victims.
Harry, too, has developed an edge. We first met him as the poor adopted relative of a suburban family that mistreated him mercilessly; this time, Harry is no longer the long-suffering victim but zaps an unpleasant dinner guest with a magical revenge that would be truly cruel if it were not, well, truly funny. Harry is no longer someone you can mess with.
Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione (Rupert Grint and Emma Watson) return to a Hogwarts that boasts, as it does every school year, peculiar new faculty members (this school policy promises years of employment for British character actors). New this year are Professor Lupin (David Thewlis), who tutors Harry in a tricky incantation said to provide protection against the dark magic of Sirius, and Professor Sybil Trelawney (Emma Thompson), whose tea readings don't pull punches-- not when she gazes into the bottom of Harry's cup and sees death in the leaves.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Albus Dumbledore intones as only he can: "Dark and difficult times lie ahead." What does he think lay behind?
In this adventure Harry will do battle with giant lizards, face the attack of the Death Eaters, and in perhaps the most difficult task of all for a 14-year-old, ask a girl to be his date at the Yule Ball.
That Harry survives these challenges goes without saying, since in the world of print his next adventures have already been published, but "Goblet of Fire" provides trials that stretch his powers to the breaking point.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" still has much of the enchantment of the earlier films, but Harry no longer has as much joy. His face is lacking the gosh-wow-this-is-really-neat grin. He has internalized the secrets and delights of the world of wizards, and is now instinctively using them to save his life.
Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) has reason to fear that playtime is long behind. As a wizard chosen in childhood for his special powers, he has reason to believe Voldemort has returned and will have to be dealt with. The Ministry of Magic, like many a government agency, is hidebound in outdated convictions and considers Harry's warning to be heresy; at Hogwarts, a fierce new professor of the dark arts, Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), has been installed to whip Harry into line.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" takes place in one of those underground caverns with a lake and an ominous gondola as the means of transportation, popularized by "The Phantom of the Opera."This sixth chapter is a darker, more ominous Harry Potter film, with a conclusion that suggests more alarmingly the deep dangers Harry and his friends have gotten themselves into. There was always a disconnect between Harry's enchanting school days at Hogwarts and the looming threat of Voldemort. Presumably it would take more than skills at Quidditch to defeat the dreaded Dark Lord.
There are really two story strands here. One involves the close working relationship of Dumbledore and Harry on the trail of Voldemort. The other involves everything else: romance and flirtation, Quidditch, a roll call of familiar characters (Hagrid, Snape, McGonagall, Wormtail, Lupin, Filch, Flitwick and Malfoy.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1

In this chapter their adventures have an especially somber and scary coloration, as the three friends are cast out from the protective cocoon of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry into a bleak, perilous grown-up world that tests the independence they have struggled to obtain under the not-always-benevolent eyes of their teachers. Childish things have been put away — this time there is no quidditch, no school uniforms, no schoolboy crushes or classroom pranks — and adult supervision has all but vanished. Albus Dumbledore is dead, and though Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) and Alastor Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson) offer some assistance early on, Harry and his companions must rely on the kindness of house elves, on their own newly mastered wizarding skills and, above all, on one another.

This is not always so easy. The implicit rivalry for Hermione’s favor that has always simmered between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ron (Rupert Grint) bubbles to the surface, as does Ron’s resentment at being the Chosen One’s sidekick. The burden of chosenness weighs on Harry as well; it is easier for him to accept being singled out for death by Lord Voldemort than to countenance the willingness of his allies and protectors to sacrifice their lives for him. Hermione (Emma Watson), for her part, seems lonelier than ever. She has broken entirely with her Muggle parents, expunging herself from their memories to prevent them from being caught up in an increasingly vicious intrawizard civil war.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2were completely sold out, even though most people knew the ending. They wanted closure. J.K. Rowling, good as she is, isn't a prose stylist: The films put interesting faces to names and fabulous designs to humdrum descriptions. In the novel, the climactic wand-off between Harry and Voldemort is notably lacking in grandeur. Here's a case where movies can add a bit of magic.

language laboratory is a dedicated space for foreign language learning where students access audio or audio-visual materials. They allow a teacher to listen to and manage student audio, which is delivered to individual students through headsets or in isolated 'sound booths.' They are still a teacher-controlled system connected to a number of student booths, containing a student's control mechanism and a headset with a microphone. Digital language labs had the same principle. A software-only language lab changes the concept of where and what a language lab is. Software can be installed and accessed on any networked PC anywhere on a school, college, or university campus. 1) Feminist Reading :
All the women characters overpowering by Male characters. In the novel Rowling undermine the women characters because he consider Harry as the most important character of the novel.

Though this Portrayal of Hermione as intelligent girl breaks down in several time by considering her knowledge as Bookish Knowledge. The Growth of the character of Hermione is always questionable. Because her growth remains not static. Some part of novel she become the most  important character who drives Harry and Ron. She saves the lives of male characters. In some part this strong narrative broken down by showing her as conscious about her looks and as emotional girl . She is consider as strong girl because to save life of her parents she deliberately remove her memories from her parents lives. It shows her strong side. But later on only one incident make her broken down when Ron doubt on Harry and her relationship
.
It is true that she is brilliant among all but she yet not got enough space like the other female characters and especially like Lily potter. She was also strong and stronger than Harry’s father and it her love which was creating armour around Harry and was protecting Harry till the end.
 2) Discourse on the Purity of Blood :
The term pure blood is used to insult the blood and half the blood. It is used to differentiate between family trees that have a different level of magical recognition. This thing played an important role in the first and second magical battles. It focuses on one of the social issues that are purity of the race and are mainly displayed by the struggle between magicians and wizards that come from all magical families and non-magical backgrounds. Pure blood and blood clot. In some cases the blood is literally the same. The home's illware wizard is in slavery by race and at the end of their masters, terrible abuse and treatment is done.
Draco explained Hermione as a blood that was not as intelligent and powerful witch. She insulted her as a "dirty mood-blood". Voldramart thinks that the pure blood wizard is superior and that the sludge's blood and muggles should serve him. Good people in Harry Potter also offer moguls as intimidation. They call them "muggles" who feel like an ethnic sular. It always shows the muggles as stupid and stupid. The mugal is a word used for humiliation. That's an insult.
3) Confronting reality by reading fantasy :
 J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the philosopher's Stone introduces one of the most loved and traditional hero in the character of Harry Potter. Harry is an ordinary orphaned male child who is first unaware of the complicated hereafter that awaits him in Howgarts' school of Witchcraft and wizardry.

In the series of Harry Potter, J. k. Rowling introduces the fantasy universe of Howgarts but the novel also beyond that fantasy because Rowling gives message of real universe like good and evil, love and death and adulthood, morality, power and politics. The fiction character of harry Potter is an 11 year old orphan life with his typical tough of a cousin Dudley Dursiey together with similarity cruel aunt and uncle. Petunia and Vernon Dursley. His charming destiny begins when he is summoned to the Howgarts's School

4) Self Help book :

Self help book is one that is written with the intention to give  instruct its readers on sloving their personal problems. So this types of book called as "self help books. Through the Harry Potter it teaches us moral lessons about self. It helping readers to overcome from psychological struggles. Harry Potter teaches basic self lessons. Like self identity in this it teaches us to know our self through the character of Harry. It also teaches us about importance of Mindfulness. The concept of acceptance taught through the character of Harry who accept his death. So like this there are many concepts pain as strength,  self compassion , importance of core values in person life and committed action . It also teaches us that  in the moment of  crises in life person should be relex. In this world  no one will come to help you. You have to help yourself rather than depending on others.

5) The Discourse of power and politics :

Harry Potter very deeply making statement on the power and politics. Foucault's power and knowledge. knowledge is always an exercise of power and power always a function of knowledge and knowledge is created by those who are in power position. In Harry Potter the ministry of Magic which has power and rules over the Hogwarts school. Prof. Dolores Umbridge declares theoretical education rather than practical. Voldemort and his death eaters has ultimate. The power of deciding things came in the hands of Umbridge. However , she misusing this power by controlling and changing  the education system. Whoever trying to raise their voice against her he will be punished by her. It shows that power always tries to controlling over others. It shows the power dynamics in the politics. Power of politics which shows that power can do anything on the name of reformation. The conflict between Voldrmort and Harry can be also seen as conflict of evil power and Good power.

 Children 's Literature:

Rowling's Harry Potter is masterpiece children literature, she used magic and fantasy because it is said that we can explore many life lesson from children literature. Rowling explored reality through fantasy. We can connect our day today experiences with the characters of the novel. How to make our own decision, how to overcome our emotional attachment and be ready to  tackle ever problem of life. So, in this way we can say that Harry Potter series is for children to old age people.
The characters tortured  by using curse level of pain, Murder. So in the Harry Potter series is not fall under the classic children literature because it is beyond then that. It has more philosophical, moral , political depth.

7) Speculative Fiction:

The Harry Potter consider as Speculative fiction because it is mixture of horror, science fiction, fantasy and historical elements. In the Harry Potter there is fantasy elements by showing the magical world which is not exist in real world.  The characterizations of Evil characters, Animals have horror effects. Everything happens in the fantasy world it has no reality in it. Like magical wond , sorcerer's stone , hoarcruxes, liquid of luck, Draught of living death position. There are many liquid position for different purposes. So this all things never happened in reality. Therefore Harry Potter series is fall under the genre of Speculative fiction.

8) Choice and Chance :

Though Voldemort is so powerful he would also unable to defeat Harry even if he had gained ownership of the Elder Wand.Choice and chance played equal role.Harry’s Chosen self -sacrifice broken Voldemort’s power but his personal triumph and survival result from his chance ownership of Elder Wand so both important choice and chance.choices and actions define our moral character.Every individual has a choice to accept or deny their mortality. Tom Riddle means Voldemort decision or choices make him dark/ evil wizard. In other hand Harry ‘s choices make him good wizard.

Voldemort and Harry Different from each others because of their choices. Every human has good and evil inside them. Harry has also evil part inside him in the form of Voldemort. The thing differs Harry from Voldemort is only of his power of Good choices.

9) Theme of Love and Death :

Harry Potter demonstrates that to understand the meaning of life, we must accept and praise our inevitable death.Harry had the presence of love from a young age which led him to accept the virtue. His parents sacrificed themselves to save Harry from the murderous hands of Voldemort.Harry’s acceptance of the death is universal truth that allows him to embrace love and recognize the sacrifice and defeat Voldemort. The Love of Mother remains the protection for Harry because of her love Voldemort not able to Killed Harry.

Harry Accept the death because the  love he felt of his friends, the love Snape had for Harry’s mother in his memories, his love of Dumbledore, the love of Hogwarts. Harry ‘s Acceptance of death shows his love towards his friends and Hogwarts school.

10) Moral and Philosophical Reading of Harry Potter :

Harry Potter series deeply connected with morally and philosophically. It teaches us very important moral life lessons. Harry accept his death ,he is not like Voldemort.Harry consider as immortal because he accept the reality of life that is ultimate Death. Each and Every character teach some moral values of life. Lucius Malfoy taught us that money will only let you choose your form of misery. Dumble Dolores Umbridge taught us that education should never have a political agenda. Harry taught us that our choices make us different from others.Harry’s inheritance  morality taught Harry to don't be like voldemort. The Last conversation between Dumbledore and Harry is very important. It also teaching us the importance of morality in person life. Harry and Voldemort differs from each other on the basis of morality they have chosen. It also deals with Death and life. Death consider better than life.

Topic :-  Character of Hermione Granger

Introduction  :-

Hermione  Granger is one of Harry Potter's best friends, along with Ron Weasley. She is depicted as extremely intelligent—the classic over-achiever, with top marks in all her classes. She was born on September 19, 1979.Hermione is a Muggle-born witch. She has bushy brown hair and brown eyes, and had buck teeth until her fourth year. However much Ron and Harry tease her, they both depend on her intelligence for their continuing success in academics. She is the most sensible of the Trio and is usually the one to solve the mysteries they are faced with.
Hermione demonstrated an impressive amount of knowledge of Hogwarts and magic for a Muggle-born.She was sorted into Gryffindor after much hesitation; the Sorting Hat wondered if she belonged to Ravenclaw, but eventually decided in the favor of Gryffindor. At the beginning of her first year, most people, including Harry and Ron, thought she was a bossy bookworm who always stuck to the rules. After the three of them fought a Mountain Troll, however, she softened a bit and became best friends with Ron and Harry.
Hermione loves to visit the Library and depends a lot in it; she believes everything can be learned through books. The only time she couldn't find anything in them was when she was searching for information on Horcruxes, but only because Horcruxes are deeply imbedded in the Dark Arts.Hermione's favorite book is probably Hogwarts, A History, from which she learned, for example, that it is impossible to Apparate or Disapparate on Hogwarts grounds. Oftentimes she scolds Ron and Harry for their relative ignorance of Hogwarts-related matters.

 As a  Feminist  Hermione  :-

We  are  saw  that ,  J.K. Rolling  has been  presented  to  Hermione  as  a very  brave and  smart  girl  in  each every  series. but Hermione  is  seen  to  suffer a  lot  of  Discrimination. Because  the  main  hero  is  Harry  potter . So  Most  of  Importance  is  flying  around  Harry.Even  we  are  showing to  Hermione is a most intelligent  girl , after  than  she  is  a  girlfriend of Ron.Even  though Hermione is  capable of  all it still has to  suffer a lot .

Feminist  perspective in Hermione’s character :-

 -  Dependent Character
-  Ignorance and  struggle
-  Perfect  example of  feminist  features
- Intelligence
- Fight  against  patriarchy
- Presence of  mind
- Thinker  of  plans

-  Ignorance and  struggle:-
  :-

Hermione is  the perfect example when examining  the  feminist  principles in the novels.Throughout the series she has  many strengths and weaknesses, but she is mostly criticized about her weakness as a character.

For example,
Professor Snape completely ignored her in favor of the boys in the class.
"Tell me, Miss Granger, are you incapable of restraining yourself, or do you take pride in being an insufferable know- it all ?”

 Intelligence :-

Hermione is that Character that is  smart and she is able to figure out most of the secrets that no one else can. Hermione knowledge  and brains save her and her friends throughout the series multiple times, showing her strength every time she  uses her intellect to defeat a problem.

She isn't easily fooled by the display of power within the Ministry of Magic and is able to value the worth of a person on how they behave with those considered inferior to the wizarding race.
She's not only able to recollect every fact she's ever learned, she's also able to apply them in situations where the other two fall short of expectations. And her reasoning is excellent.  she is able to reason with an extremely furious Harry that it's better to verify that Sirius isn't home before rushing off to what might be an ambush.

Hermione is logical. Being logical, having a sound argument and the ability to challenge notions does not make her less intelligent. Is she a skeptic? Doesn't she question and question until she gets a reasonable answer that is solid without any logical fallacies? Yes. She does. I would say being a skeptic makes her much more intelligent, because here is a person that will research and prove her point and if she finds out that her standpoint is false, she will concede. Dumbledore was intelligent and wise and that wisdom came with age. This is why he was able to have hunches and accept facts which would have seemed far-fetched otherwise. He had been witness to many a terrible thing during his life.

  For example,

Harry Potter , who had found  himself a
book full of potion cheat codes . The last   thing her needed was another helping hand. Hermione  warned him about using the book.

 - Fight  against  patriarchy :-

Harry Potter might be named for its male protagonist, but the Harry Potter series brought us some of the fiercest female characters of all time: Minerva McGonagall, Molly Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley, Fleur Delacour,  and everyone's favorite insufferable know-it-all, Hermione Granger.
These witches aren't just your stereotypical strong female characters, either. They're each different, with their own strengths and flaws Luna is a bit out-to-lunch, but still kind and courageous. Ginny can get hotheaded, but she makes up for it with loyalty and nerve. And Hermione is the smartest witch of her year and as brave as any Gryffindor, but she can also be ruthless and intensely stubborn. They're all every bit the equal of their wizard classmates, and they're all well-rounded characters to boot. J.K. Rowling's girls all feel real, or as real as you can get at a school for witchcraft and wizardry.
Even the boys can be refreshingly feminist, when they're not desperately trying to get a date to the Yule Ball. Harry and Ron are meat-headed teenagers sometimes, but they also seem perfectly happy to admit that Hermione's the most talented when it comes to magic (which may just be a ploy to get her to help with their homework, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The women of Harry Potter were always there to remind us that girls can cast Bat-Bogey Hexes just as well if not better) than boys can. So here are some choice quotes for when you're fed up with the non-magical patriarchy:

Here we also have to think about the other part that though she is emerging as the strong character among our eyes as the reader but she is not ‘The Hero’ of the novel. We always will put her after Harry Potter. The other thing is that Dumbledore he gave a book to Hermione and the tools to Harry and Ron which again shows the typical portrayal of a girl. Well, second interpretation we can also do that only she is enough intelligent to read the book. And his faith in Hermione is also true. The second thing is that in the last part of the movies it is showed that she is carrying a purse a magical purse in which everything she needs come out. Which again carry on the idea that in a girl’s purse we will find everything - the typical idea.

It is true that she is brilliant among all but she yet not got enough space like the other female characters and especially like Lily potter. She was also strong and stronger than Harry’s father and it her love which was creating armour around Harry and was protecting Harry till the end.

Conclusion:-

So we  know  that  Hermione ‘s  character gets  a lot  of  support  from one , and  from  another  point  of  view  there  is  a  lot of  injustice  done  to  her  character.
Hermione is emerging as strong character but she is not the lead character of the story. The second thing is that she is always targeted for her weakness she is never appreciated for her strength, Even, Ron also admits that without Hermione they were not able to survive for a day but even then he is not appreciating her face to face. And the other limitation is that like other characters here Hermione is also objectified but in more controlled way. At some extend she becomes the reason of the rivalry between both the friends. But the good thing is that she is not weak point of the story rather she is the strong bond of the story. She is very logical in her way of thinking. But still all the time she is being abused by remembering her that she is Muggle-blood. It is true that she is smart among three of them but she is always pointed about her weakness rather than her ability and positivity.
